When Simonsig first partnered with Picsa, HR Manager Angela du Plessis was drawn to the simplicity of the offering. “There are no monthly fees, the admin is hassle-free, and the products are designed with blue-collar workers in mind,” she explains. It was a practical solution to a real challenge facing many of their employees.
A safer way to save
Before Picsa, several staff members were saving through informal channels that charged high interest rates and offered little protection. “We wanted to encourage our workers to save, both short-term and long-term, and to give them a financial cushion during times of crisis,” she says.
Empowering employees through financial education
Since introducing Picsa’s products, Angela has seen a shift. Employees are more financially aware and feel empowered to make informed decisions about their money. “They’ve learnt a lot about financial education and what financial freedom can look like for them,” she adds.
Emergency loans, in particular, have proven to be a popular option. “It’s a hassle-free service, which makes it easy for staff to access when they need it most,” Angela explains.
A winning partnership
Working with the Picsa team has been a positive experience, too. “They’re lovely and very helpful,” Angela says. She also appreciates that when the team visits Simonsig to raise awareness about Picsa’s products, they do so in a way that is inclusive. “The sessions are done in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa, which means everyone is part of the conversation.”
Simonsig’s partnership with Picsa continues to support the financial health of its workforce - one step, and one saving, at a time.
